Friends Star Matthew Perry Passes Away At 54

He’s most widely known for his role as Chandler Bing on the popular 90s sitcom Friends, now fans around the world are mourning the death of Matthew Perry.

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Perry’s death but sources say he returned home from a game of pickle ball and sent his assistant on an errand. When the assistant returned Perry was found unresponsive in his hot tub. Police have not released many details surrounding the actors death but fans and colleagues are shocked wondering what happened.

Matthew Perry was a very successful actor with an impressive resume. He’s appeared in several movies and TV shows. Some of his other notable roles include appearances in “The West Wing”, “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip”, “17 Again”, “Fools Rush In”, “Scrubs”, “Beverly Hills 90210”, “The Odd Couple”, “The Whole Nine Yards”, and many more.

Though Perry’s acting career soared, he has experienced some low points in life. In 1997, a jet ski accident left him addicted to Vicodin. He went into rehab and after time he was declared sober. Sadly, his sobriety was short lived as he found himself in and out of rehabs for several years to follow battling drug and alcohol addiction..

In 2018, Perry made headlines after his colon burst from drug abuse putting his life in jeopardy. He was hospitalized and placed on life support for a brief time. He told people magazine during an interview, “The doctors told my family that I had a two percent chance to live.” He went on to say, “I was put on a thing called an ECMO machine, which does all the breathing for your heart and your lungs. And that’s called a Hail Mary. No one survives that”, but thankfully he did.

Perry endured 14 stomach surgeries but he never gave up. He spoke out openly about his struggles with addiction, and released a book on November 1, 2022, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir. In this book he tells the story of all his experiences, even admitting to taking about 55 pills per day and spending an estimated 9 million dollars on his drug habit..

Though Matthew Perry had a rough past, he also had a promising future. Just days ago Perry posted a photo of himself in a hot tub on Instagram with the message, “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman”. It is unclear if that is the same hot tub in which his body was found.

Friends, colleagues, and fans are taking to social media to express their condolences, shock and love for Perry. @FriendsTv posted on X, “We are devastated to learn of Matthew Perry’s passing. He was a true gift to us all. Our heart goes out to his family, loved ones, and all of his fans”. Legally Blonde actress Selma Blair also posted, “My oldest boy friend. All of us loved Matthew Perry, and I did especially. Every day I loved him unconditionally. And he me. And I’m broken. Broken hearted. Sweet dreams Matty. Sweet dreams.”

Matthew Perry passed away at his Los Angeles home. Their are no reports of foul play or drug use. He will be truly missed.
