On this day, August 25, 2001, the world was in mourning after learning Aaliyah passed away due to a plane crash at the age of 22. The accident occurred in the Bahamas where she was filming the video to her single, “Rock the Boat”.

Aaliyah gained stardom in the mid-1990s with her unique blend of R&B, pop, and hip-hop music. Some of her most popular songs include “Try Again,” “Are You That Somebody?,” “One in a Million,” and “Rock the Boat.” She is often credited with helping to redefine contemporary R&B music and was known for her sultry voice, smooth dance moves, and distinctive urban style.

Aside from her music career, Aaliyah was also an accomplished actress. She appeared in the films “Romeo Must Die” and “Queen of the Damned.” She was set to further expand her acting career at the time of her passing.

Aaliyah’s untimely death was a huge loss to the music and entertainment industry, as she was considered a rising star with immense talent and potential.
