Timothy White, better known as T-Dubb, is building his career with a clear vision, strong business knowledge, and a relentless work ethic. Hailing from Newport News, Virginia, T-Dubb is more than just a recording artist. He is a lyricist, producer, sound engineer, and entrepreneur. During his recent interview with The Fleet Mag host DJ Swag 100, T-Dubb opened up about his journey in music, independent grind, accomplishments, and his plans for global success.
T-Dubb describes his sound as a blend of Southern and East Coast Hip Hop. His music combines hard-hitting down south beats with sharp lyricism and engaging storytelling. This unique fusion has helped him stand out in a competitive industry.
T-Dubb’s musical journey began with open mic performances, where his talent quickly became undeniable. T-Dubb consistently dominated competitions, winning so often that organizers eventually told him he could no longer compete because he kept taking first place. Those victories opened doors for him to become an opening act for major artists including Boyz II Men, Keyshia Cole, Lil Scrappy, Young Buck, Dem Franchize Boyz, and many more. This proves that T-Dubb’s stage presence and talent is above and beyond the average indie artist.
As an independent artist, T-Dubb has invested heavily in himself and his brand. Over the past five years, he estimates spending around $50,000 on his music career. From producing music and shooting videos, to traveling state to state promoting his music, he understands that success requires financial commitment and nonstop promotions. He sells CDs, flash drives, and merchandise while constantly pushing his music through social media and live performances. For T-Dubb, every dollar spent is an investment in his future.
T-Dubb has won nearly two dozen awards across multiple states throughout the United States. His accolades include honors for Best Music Video, Best Artist, and Best Label. These achievements reflect not only his musical talent but also his ability to market himself effectively.
Business knowledge is one of T-Dubb’s strongest assets. He strongly emphasizes the importance of artists having their paperwork in order and understanding the business side of the music industry. Certified in marketing, T-Dubb has developed the skills needed to manage his own career rather than depending on a major label. He believes independent artists must be prepared to invest in themselves, understand contracts and royalties, and control their own brands to succeed long-term.
T-Dubb’s label, Lightz Out Entertainment, operates under the umbrella of BHOA United through Universal. This strategic move gives him an additional platform to push his music while maintaining his entrepreneurial independence. This structure allows him to build his own empire while expanding his reach.
Among his notable releases is his song “Romeo and Juliet,” inspired by an older record that sparked his creativity. He brought the concept to life by collaborating with his fiancée, LA, creating a personal and meaningful track. Another standout song, “Cocky,” was inspired by critics who called him conceited. T-Dubb flipped it by responding with the phrase, “I’m not conceited, I’m cocky,” turning it into a bold anthem.

T-Dubb’s networking skills are another major factor in his growth. He has established strong relationships with club owners, venue operators, and event promoters in his hometown and has built connections in nearly every state. This network has helped him maintain a steady presence in the music scene while preparing for his upcoming independent tour.
With new projects on the horizon, T-Dubb is continuing to expand his catalog. His latest video for “Pic Up Da Pace” is making noise, and he plans to soon shoot a video for his track “Lightz Out.” These releases are part of his larger mission to build his brand and push toward international recognition.
Beyond his own success, T-Dubb encourages fellow artists to educate themselves on marketing and the business side of music. He believes talent alone is not enough. Understanding promotion, branding, and business strategy is essential for longevity in the entertainment industry.
T-Dubb’s story begins and thrives off of grinding. From dominating open mics to building an independent label, winning awards, and preparing for larger stages, he continues to prove that success comes from persistence and smart business moves. As he works toward becoming a global recording artist, T-Dubb remains focused on growth, authenticity, and creating a lasting impact.
