Michael Jackson’s biopic opened at number one, reportedly with the highest biopic opening at the box office. The earnings from the weekend exceeded $200 million dollars globally.

The film was produced by Graham King and directed by Antoine Fuqua and Lionsgate Films. Reportedly they ran into a few production issues while shooting the film resulting in them changing direction. The film did not mention any previous lawsuits or past allegations that were made against Jackson that can violate the terms and conditions of any previous settlements.

With the King of Pop’s nephew Jaafar Jackson taking the lead role, the film starts with Jackson at the age of 10 years old with his brothers as the Jackson 5. It then goes into adult hood and the release of his multi-platinum albums, “Off the Wall,” “Thriller,” and “Bad”. While Jackson’s sister, Janet, declined to participate in the biopic and his daughter Paris not being fully on board with the film, it still managed to have participation and support from most of the Jackson family members and estate.

The film has reportedly generated renewed interest in Jackson’s music catalog and a rise in streaming numbers.
