After spending over two years in prison, Todd and Julie Chrisley may be heading home soon. During a phone call with the couple’s two youngest children, Savannah and Grayson, President Trump announced he will pardon the reality show stars and wipe their records clean.
The Chrisleys’ legal troubles began in 2019 when they were indicted on multiple counts, including conspiracy to commit bank fraud and tax evasion. Federal prosecutors accused the couple of submitting false financial statements to obtain over $30 million in loans to support their lavish lifestyles. After receiving the cash, prosecutors say they filed for bankruptcy, releasing them from the obligation to pay the loans back. Furthermore, the Chrisley’s were accused of neglecting to file taxes for several years and withholding income from their reality show “Chrisley Knows Best,” to avoid paying over $500K in back taxes to the IRS.
In 2022, Todd Chrisley was found guilty of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and tax fraud. On January 17, 2023, he turned himself in at Federal Prison Camp Pensacola to begin his 12-year sentence. Julie was convicted of similar charges to her husband, as well as wire fraud and obstruction of justice. She was sentenced to seven years behind bars at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington. Kentucky.
Todd and Julie have always maintained their innocence over the years. Their daughter, Savannah, has been a strong advocate to get her parents released. In a recent interview on Fox News with President Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara, Savannah expressed concerns that her parents were being targeted and treated unfairly, because of their celebrity status.
President Trump’s pardons have sparked concern over the use of presidential clemency. Previously, many were outraged after he pardoned 1,500 people involved in the January 6 U.S. Capitol riot, including those who physically assaulted police officers.
The Fleet Mag will keep you updated on the anticipated release of Todd and Julie Chrisley and the moment they are reunited with their family.
