On this day, October 5, 1974, singer, songwriter, and actress Heather Headley was born in Trinidad.

Headley initially gained recognition for her soulful singing voice. She released her debut album, “This Is Who I Am,” in 2002, which included hit songs like “I Wish I Wasn’t” and “He Is.”

In 2009, Headley released the album Audience of One which went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album.

In addition to her music career, Heather Headley has also been successful in the world of musical theater. She made her Broadway debut in 1997 in the musical “Ragtime,” for which she received a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. She later starred as Aida in Elton John and Tim Rice’s musical “Aida,” winning the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical again.

Heather Headley has continued to perform on Broadway and in other theater productions, showcasing her exceptional vocal talent and acting abilities.
