Share Story To Social Media

Lyricist, storyteller, powerful and authentic. These are four words used to describe Jon Conner. Recently The Fleet Mag caught up with him to talk about the music industry and his choice to be an indie artist. Check it out below and be sure to follow him on all social media platforms.

Rebecca : Hi you doing? Tell us a little brief something about yourself.

Jon Connor: Jon Connor is my stage name, I am from Flint, Michigan and my father really inspired me, because he was a musician himself.  My other inspiration was my sister, she brought Hip Hop in our house so it started from there my love for hip hop. I used to sell my Cds in high school, then I made my own home studio.  In 2011-2012, I started dropping mixtapes and linked up with Dr Dre and his associates so I stayed with them for 5 years. I left after that and wanted to pursue my own thing, so here I am.

Rebecca : How would you describe the music that you typically create?

Jon Connor : I am passionate and soulful, everything comes from my heart.  I usually let God take the wheel for me.  People can relate to my type of music because I can connect to all people.

Rebecca : What do you feel is the most challenging part of being an artist?

Jon Connor : Doing independent funding is a challenge, because you have to finance all your projects, studio sessions, getting songs on platforms.  This money comes out of your pocket.  You definitely wanna see a payoff since you are the financer.

Rebecca : If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Jon Connor:  I would change the way people think about hoarding knowledge, They will not share knowledge that can help another person coming behind you in the industry.  I would stop the cycle of not sharing the knowledge.

Rebecca : How do you balance your life as an entertainer with your family life?

Jon Connor : Well the first half of my career I will say I was really focused on making it in the industry. I did not realize how important my family is and they still was always there to support me.  I had to change my thought process to make sure I spend time with my family this round of my career.

Rebecca : How can people find you?

Jon Connor : On all platforms you can find me at @JonConnormusic

Rebecca : Lastly, what do you have coming up?

Jon Connor : I have a web series about my own documentary, I am also working on writing a book and I will see you all at the Virginia Fleet Conference in September.  Thank you.
