Fans attending the opening night of Lionel Richie’s 2026 North American tour were left concerned after the legendary singer was forced to end his concert early when he began feeling dizzy during his performance. The unexpected incident took place at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, where thousands had gathered to see the music icon perform alongside the legendary band Earth, Wind & Fire.
Concert attendees were having a great time as Richie sang several of his timeless hits, but about an hour into his performance, it became clear that something was wrong. While performing “Dancing on the Ceiling,” the 77-year-old singer paused several times and sat down on the stage platform, signaling that he was not feeling well.
Rather than trying to hide what he was experiencing, Richie addressed the audience with his trademark sense of humor. He reportedly told concertgoers that he was feeling dizzy and joked that when you feel dizzy, the best thing to do is sit down. The lighthearted comment briefly eased concerns among fans, who applauded as he continued performing while seated.

Determined to continue entertaining the audience, Richie moved to the piano and performed the ballad “Three Times a Lady” while remaining seated. Although he completed the song, he was still having difficulty. Shortly afterward, he announced an unscheduled intermission, giving fans hope that he would recover and return to finish the concert.
The audience waited patiently as Richie’s band remained on stage for several minutes before eventually leaving. Roughly 40 minutes later, saxophonist Dino Soldo returned to address the crowd with disappointing news. He informed attendees that Lionel Richie was not feeling well enough to continue the performance and thanked everyone for their patience and understanding. The concert officially ended after 55 minutes, much earlier than its planned 90-minute running time.
Following the show, reports indicated that Richie may have been experiencing mild dehydration, although no official medical diagnosis was immediately released. Members of the touring team reportedly said the singer had appeared healthy and energetic before taking the stage, making the incident both unexpected and concerning.

Despite the abbreviated performance, audience members largely responded with compassion and understanding. While many expressed disappointment that the concert ended early, most were simply relieved that Richie acknowledged he was unwell instead of risking a more serious medical emergency. Fans praised his honesty and willingness to communicate directly with the audience about what he was experiencing.
Lionel Richie has spent more than five decades entertaining audiences around the world with chart-topping classics including “Hello,” “All Night Long (All Night),” “Easy,” “Stuck on You,” “Say You, Say Me,” and countless other hits. His remarkable career has earned him four Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and recognition as one of the most influential singer-songwriters of all time.
The concert marked the opening night of Richie’s 26-city “Sing a Song All Night Long” North American tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. The tour is scheduled to visit major cities across the United States and Canada throughout the summer, and fans are now awaiting updates regarding his condition and whether any upcoming performances will be affected. Richie’s next performance is scheduled for Friday. June 26.
