With his uplifting and smooth vocals, he has always been welcome in our homes, weddings, and every family gathering. Today, we mourn the passing of BET and NAACP lifetime achievement award winning producer, musician, and soul singer, Howard Stanley \u201cFrankie\u201d Beverly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frankie Beverly was born December 6, 1946 in the \u201cCity of Brotherly Love,\u201d Philadelphia, also known as Philly. As a child, Beverly was influenced by the music he heard in church, as well as R&amp;B singers Sam Cooke, Lloyd Price, and the doo-wop group Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During his teenage years, Beverly started his first band, a doo-wop acapella group, \u201cThe Blenders,\u201d but disbanding shortly after. Utilizing the knowledge and experience he gained from working with \u201cThe Blenders,\u201d Beverly started another band called, \u201cThe Butlers\u201d in 1963. They caught the attention of songwriter and record producer, Kenny Gamble, and signed a record deal.  The Butlers released songs such as, \u201cBecause Of My Heart,\u201d \u201cShe Tried To Kiss Me,\u201d and \u201cIf That\u2019s What You Wanted.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Frank Beverly And The Butlers - If That&#039;s What You Wanted\" width=\"1110\" height=\"833\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IrQ9Go7Cgi4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1971, Gamble Records and The Butlers parted ways due to creative differences. After leaving Gamble Records, Beverly and his group changed their name to \u201cRaw Soul\u201d and moved to San Francisco, CA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Frankie Beverly&#039;s Raw Soul   While I&#039;m Alone   Original\" width=\"1110\" height=\"833\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/J7mi6hPp5y8?list=PLOMvwYOuuLX3hmq5ZR_nrm_b16hI5-m73\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While performing at different venues in San Francisco, \u201cRaw Soul\u201d caught the attention of Marvin Gaye\u2019s sister-in- law which opened the door for them to become one of the opening acts for Marvin Gaye. While touring, Gaye convinced Beverly to change the bands name to the one we all know and love, \u201cMaze.\u201d Following their name change, Gaye helped Maze get a record deal with Capitol Records in 1976.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frankie Beverly &amp; \u201cMaze\u201d released 9 gold albums from 1977 to 1993 including, \u201cMaze featuring Frankie Beverly,\u201d \u201cGolden Time Of Day,\u201d \u201cLive In New Orleans,\u201d \u201cWe Are One,\u201d and \u201cCan\u2019t Stop The Love.\u201d Many of these albums landed on the Billboard charts in the US and the UK. The influence and inspiration of Frankie Beverly &amp; Maze has impacted many generations. Even being featured in, \u201cGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas,\u201d and later Beyonc\u00e9 covering their single \u201cBefore I Let Go.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Maze Ft. After more than 50 years in the music business, Frankie Beverly performed his final concert in his hometown at the Dell Music Center. Before I Let Go, I would like to say, you will be missed, but never forgotten.
