Demi is a rising star in the music industry. She’s talented, passionate, and driven. She’s also a
role model for young people everywhere. In this interview with Dr. Marsha, Demi talks about
her music, her dreams, and the future of the music industry. She also shares some advice for
aspiring musicians and fans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: How old are you?<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer: I am currently 19 years old. I am a Sophomore at the University of Memphis. I am
majoring in Film and Video Production. For my freshman year, I majored in Music, but since I
am a singer songwriter, it made sense to go into Film and Video Production so I can produce my
own videos and films. I have a passion for movies and television too. While I am in school
I can level up my skills in film and video production through my assignments. It\u2019s a great
opportunity to learn and apply what I\u2019m studying. I am excited to be a student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: How long have you been singing?<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer: I’ve been singing all my life, basically, ever since I was in kindergarten, but I really
started officially making music when I was 14 or 15. My Mom sang and so did my Dad. In fact,
my Dad was in a singing group when he was younger! So, singing is in my genes. I have sung in
different community choirs and with different groups in Memphis. Currently, all my projects are
solo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: Who are your musical influences?<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer: My number 1 musical influence is Beyonce. I am also inspired by Rihanna, and I would
have to say, Summer Walker, because she is a great R&B singer. One last influencer that I really
love is Jhene\u2019 Aiko. All of them rank high on the Billboard charts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: What is your songwriting process like?<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer: I usually start by coming up with a melody or a beat, and then I write the lyrics to fit.
Sometimes I’ll write the lyrics first, but it usually starts with the melody or the beat. Sometimes
people send me beats and I create lyrics to the beats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: What is your favorite song to perform?<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer: My favorite song to perform live is my newest single, “I\u2019m Ready\u201d It’s a song about me
coming into adulthood and finding myself. I am ready for that. I am 19 now, I have matured and
grown into a new person. This is a new chapter of my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: Are you thinking about doing any plays in the future?<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer: Yes, I would love to do some plays in the future. I think it would be a great way to
challenge myself as an actress. Since I am studying film and video production. I can produce my
own film and videos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: What are your future plans?<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer: My future include making music, acting, and producing. I would also love to start my
own fashion line and natural haircare line. I have made several video hauls on YouTube. Many
of today\u2019s artists are also business moguls. Mary J. Blige has her own wine label, Snoop Dogg
also has a wine label, and a clothing line to name a few. I want to be like them when I grow up!
You got to have multiple streams of income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: How has your family supported you as you pursue your dreams?<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer: My family has been incredibly supportive of my dreams. They’ve always been there for
me, cheering me on and helping me in any way they can. I’m so grateful for their love and
support. I am going to make them proud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: What are your thoughts on the current state of the music industry?<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer: I think the music industry is in an exciting place right now. There are so many new
artists and genres emerging, and people are more open to listening to different kinds of music
than ever before. I also think that the internet has made it easier for artists to connect with
their fans and build a following, even if they’re not signed to a major label. Of course, there are also some challenges facing the music industry today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, streaming has made it difficult for artists to make a living from their music. But I think that there are a lot of innovative solutions being developed to address these challenges. Overall, I’m optimistic about the future of the music industry. I think that it’s a time of great creativity and opportunity for artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: What kind of community projects are you involved in?<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer: I am involved with a project called the Heal the Hood Foundation. The Foundation
supports youth of all ages and young adults through singing, dancing, art, acting, motivational
speaking, screen writing, and modeling. There is a lot of violence in Memphis, this project is a
way to keep young people out of trouble and engaged in something positive and possibly life
changing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: Have you had anyone to mentor you in the music industry?<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer: I have been mentored by several people. And I love being a prot\u00e9g\u00e9 because it just
really gives me inspiration and motivation to do better and to really perfect my craft. And I
would also love to mentor others. I would actually like to have one on one talks or group talks
to just give people an insight on how the industry really is and how to do certain things in the
music industry. So yeah, I would love to, that would be great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: What advice would you give aspiring musicians?<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would just love to say to the aspiring artists out there never give up on your dreams. Put God
first. Even though you may be nervous sometimes. God created us and put us with a particular
set of parents. Also, just really stick to being your authentic self. Don’t try to be anyone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another piece of advice would be to really understand what’s going on, like the music business
portion. Because people can really mess you over, especially in the industry. I’ve heard a lot of
stories. So yeah, I just really feel like you should have a lawyer and an accountant to know
what’s going on with your business. And you must have a team to help you because you can’t
just do it all by yourself. It will be super hard if you do that. Last thing, just be yourself, be
careful, and be cautious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: What is your message to your fans?<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer: I will say I love my fans. I am so grateful to them. It’s just a great feeling when someone
loves what you do. It\u2019s also a great feeling when you love what you do. It’s just really a blessing
to have people out there that really like what you do as a person. So, I really want to say that I
love my fans. I really appreciate you guys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Question: What does your future look like, Demi?<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Answer: I see myself traveling the world, touring, doing more songwriting, and even getting into
movies and TV shows. I want to be an all-around artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
