Niko McKnight, the estranged son of R&B singer Brian McKnight, has passed away at the age of 32 after a two-year battle with cancer. The news was shared by his uncle, Claude McKnight, in a heartfelt TikTok video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the video, Claude paid tribute to Niko’s talent and legacy, describing him as a gifted singer, guitarist, and photographer. He also addressed the family’s complicated dynamics but refrained from getting into the details, choosing to emphasize love to all parties involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Niko publicly revealed his colon cancer diagnosis in January 2024 through an Instagram post, expressing hope and gratitude for the support he received, particularly from his wife. Despite some signs of improvement shared in a December 2024 update, Niko ultimately succumbed to the illness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born to Brian McKnight and his ex-wife Julie, Niko followed in his father’s musical footsteps. He and his older brother, Brian Jr., performed alongside their father in the group MCKNIGHT and contributed to his 2013 album “More Than Words.” Beyond music, Niko was also a talented photographer and producer, working on various projects in multiple genres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The relationship between Brian McKnight and his older children, including Niko, had been strained in recent years. Niko’s uncle Claude remembered him as an amazing individual who was quirky, curious, and ridiculously talented. Claude expressed hope that Niko’s legacy would be remembered and that he would be reunited with him someday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
